YouthBuild allows students to learn basic construction skills while giving back to their community by creating safe, affordable housing. Participants devote half of their time at YouthBuild to the jobsite, building or rehabilitating up to 8 homes per year. Thus students are not trained in one specific skill, but get a general overview of all skills from framing to finish. Students are given classes and competencies they must pass on each skill, however the main focus is on service to the community and the development of safe and affordable places to live for low to moderate income families in the community.

OSHA Safety/First Aid /CPR – This course utilizes Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and American Red Cross (ARC) materials to provide students with a basic knowledge of safety. The student will gain an increased understanding of first aid skills and construction work site safety. This course is theoretical and applied and no prerequisite are required.

Residential Construction Applications-This course is an entry level and is the applied portion of the residential construction program.  The student will gain a more complete understanding of the construction process through the building of homes. Students will learn basic skills and complements the knowledge gained in the Core Curriculum course.  This prerequisite for this course is OSHA Safety/First Aid/CPR

Core Curriculum-This course is an introductory course designed by National Center for Construction Education (NCCER) and Research designed to give the student entry level knowledge of the skills needed to work in the construction industry. Course is conducted in a mobile classroom on a working construction site and provides a theoretical approach and includes a performance skills evaluation that is measured in the Residential Construction Applications course. No prerequisite required.

Carpentry Fundamentals-This course builds upon the basic skills, the NCCER designed curriculum directs the student in specific understanding of the theoretical requirements of residential carpentry. The tasks presented in this course are the fundamental building blocks for all carpenters. This course also includes a performance skills evaluation that is measured in the Residential Construction Applications course. The prerequisite for this course is Core Curriculum.
