Community Strengthening...
As an AmeriCorps program, YouthBuild McLean County is incredibly dedicated to improving our communities through service. Community Strengthening gives participants the opportunity to give back to their community by helping people and nonprofit agencies in need. Participants learn about civic awareness and responsibility while building community through service in areas such as the environment, homeland security, and affordable housing. As AmeriCorps members, our youth receive a Living Scholarship while serving at YouthBuild, and earn an AmeriCorps scholarship in the following amount depending on their number of completed service hours:

  • 675 servcie hours = $1,400
  • 900 service hours = $2,436
  • 1700 service hours = $4,800



In addition to offering the YouthBuild Students the opportunity to earn a Part Time AmeriCorps Scholarship select students will be offered the chance to complete an additional 1700 service hours and earn a second scholarship in the amount of $4,800. The Full Time AmeriCorps positions offer the following: 

  • paid stipend
  • extensive work experience
  • supervisor and leadership opportunities
  • health insurance &
  • child care assistance


Several YouthBuild McLean County Alumni have completed second terms with the program in full and part time AmeriCorps positions.  Some of the positions that second year members can hold are listed below:

  • Job site Assistants
  • Program Assistants
  • Community Partnership Coordinators &
  • Alumni Program Assistants


The second year AmeriCorps Members are directly supervised by the Program Director and the Vice President of Construction.
