Community Strengthening... As an AmeriCorps program, YouthBuild McLean County is incredibly dedicated to improving our communities through service. Community Strengthening gives participants of the YouthBuild Program the opportunity to give back to their community by helping people and nonprofit agencies in need. Participants learn about civic awareness and responsibility while building community through service in areas such as the environment, homeland security, and affordable housing. As AmeriCorps members, our youth can earn an AmeriCorps scholarship depending on their number of completed service hours.
In addition to offering the YouthBuild Students the opportunity to earn a Part Time AmeriCorps Scholarship, select students also will be offered the chance to complete an additional 1700 service hours and earn a second scholarship. The Full Time AmeriCorps positions offer the following:
- a paid stipend
- extensive work experience
- supervisor and leadership opportunities
- health insurance &
- child care assistance
Several YouthBuild McLean County Alumni have completed second terms with the program in full and part time AmeriCorps positions. The second year AmeriCorps Members are directly supervised by the Program Director and the Vice President of Construction. Some of the positions that second year members can hold are listed below:
