Personal and Occupational Development utilizes life skills and employability training to hone participants’ sense of responsibility and work ethic. Leadership, as defined by YouthBuild, is “making things go right for yourself, your family, your program and your community.” This is the core value emphasized in all Personal and Occupational Development classes, whether the topic is personal financial management, how to write a resume, or choosing a 401K. In all four methods, self and group reflection are the key tools utilized to encourage understanding and growth. As a youth development program, YB works to meet participants where they are and give them the tools and opportunities to go where they want to go.

In addition to having employability classes, YouthBuild McLean County is opening a Career and Education Research Center for it students and graduates. The center will be open by appointment and be designed and decorated to stimulate success in education and employment.
