MLK Day of Service

MLK Day of Service

YBMC takes the day ON!

EDIT: Due to inclement weather, MLK Day of Service will be observed on Friday, 1/25/19

This Monday, January 21, 2019 YouthBuild McLean County students and staff will celebrate a day on instead of off, as they complete service projects within the community to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Collectively, 150 hours will be spent on activities such as mentoring kids at the YWCA, assisting the volunteer coordinator at Miller Park Zoo, creating inspirational cards, reading Martin Luther King Jr’s story to children, and various construction and beautification projects whose beneficiaries include Pet Central Helps.  “Instead of taking a day off for the holiday, our students and staff take the day on to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy”, said Tracey Polson, Executive Director.  “Service is a great way for our students to give back to the community and make a positive impact.  This is one of our favorite days of the year because we can see the big impact of helping our neighbors when we all come together.”
